Wright Brothers Huffman Prairie Bikeway

Back-pedal through time

May, 2024 by brea.denise

The bike path leading to Huffman Prairie offers a scenic journey, albeit with minimal shade, so lather up on sunscreen. Its gentle terrain makes for an easy ride, perfect for cyclists of all levels. As you pedal through, you're reminded of the profound historical connection between bicycles and the Wright brothers, who honed their flying skills on these very grounds. It's not just a bike path; it's a ride through history.

Great Miami River Trail

Ran this trail twice

May, 2024 by luv_mlb25

I have ran this trail from top to bottom twice. This included the portion that is known as Canal Feeder Trail in Sidney (not labeled on this map, but said to be part of the trail) and also includes the last little bit from Hamilton to Fairfield.

Last year when i ran it, it was labeled as being 99 miles, however, this year they have it marked as being 87 miles...not sure where the other 12 miles went from the year before...but I measured it out to be 95.72 miles. This includes any and all spurs or any branches off from the main trail. Canal feeder trail is 4.66 miles (this includes the whole trail, across Vandemark Rd where the trail extends and dead ends in the woods with no place to go but back to the Vandemark Rd parking lot). Then starting at Swift Run in Piqua and ending at Trenton (including Canal Feeder) measures 84.55 miles. The last little bit from Reigart Road in Hamilton to Groh Ln in Fairfield measures 11.17 miles.

I frequently run the portions running from Piqua to Vandalia. This portion is mostly wooded and protected. Once it gets in to Dayton it gets a little tricky with more flood bank runs and city views. The run from Marina Drive to Miami St is a little boring but not as boring as the path from Carmody to Trenton that measures 6.2 miles in distance.

I have this trail broke down in to miles pretty good with landmarks. If anyone ever wants to know distance measures, I'm your gal.

The last leg of the map runs Hamilton to Fairfield, and honestly may be the best part through heavy woods and beautiful landscapes.

Enjoy!

Prairie Grass Trail

Day 3

May, 2024 by jarboe

A wonderful trail that slowly climbs out of Xenia. It begins with a canopy of trees and later turns to fields. An Inn on the trail in Cedarville warmly welcomes cyclists for a rest stop. It saved us from a passing thunderstorm.
Five Stars. We rode 51 miles.

Xenia-Jamestown Connector

Day 1

May, 2024 by jarboe

Xenia is a casual cyclist's version of heaven. Five trails radiate out of this town. "Xenia Station" is the nucleus. Find yourselves a nice bed and breakfast and spend the week.

This is a great warm up trial. Nicely maintained. We did 42 miles in May 2024 to start our week.

Little Miami Scenic Trail

Days 2 and 4

South out of Xenia this trail deserves a five-star-plus rating. Well maintained, wooded with a river, you will be tempted to ride this forever. We did 60 miles.

North is a little more urban but still a five-star trial. We did 41 miles. Thank you, Xenia!

Creekside Trail

Day 5

Another one of the five great trails out of Xenia. This is a good one to close out a week of riding. Thank you, Xenia!

Ohio River Trail

Connects to Purple People Bridge

May, 2024 by joenad55

Jogged on this during a recent trip. Right along the Ohio river. On one side it goes right by the stadiums, and the other side is right alongside the river. Great scenery and the pavement is in very good condition. can be accessed from the purple People Bridge down a flight of stairs.

Newport Southbank Bridge (Purple People Bridge)

Nice experience.

I loved going over this bridge, both walking and jogging. Connects to the riverfront on both sides. Easy access to the stadiums and downtown Cincinnati. Lots of artwork on it. The bridge can actually be rented for special events!

Little Miami Scenic Trail

Mostly good

April, 2024 by ken.criss

We rode from Beatty Station near Springfield south to Xenia station on 4/9/2024. We liked the trail just fine. Not too many road crossings, paved, rail trail grades, etc. If headed south, when you get to Xenia be aware that the trail turns right at a street with virtually no signage except for a sign that said Xenia Station .5 straight ahead. So we stayed straight ahead which encompassed the sidewalks of Xenia instead of the actually bike path. Other than that mixup we were happy with the trail. We hope to do the rest of it at a future date.

Archway Trail

Road trip to Indy. Needed a quick run to stretch the legs. Just a few minutes off i70 and just a few minutes to run the 0.6 mile trail. Runs along a main road. Nice "trail". Wouldn't go out of my way for it... But it served it's purpose.

Dayton-Kettering Connector

awesome little trail in all seasons

January, 2024 by luv_mlb25

This 1.9 trail is a hidden treasure. I am a runner, so I submit my review based on the trail that is shown on this map. I do not do any of the road portions and am strictly reviewing the trail itself. Parking is an issue as the trail starts/ends in neighborhoods. One end of the trail is on UD Campus, so it's best to pick a place to park when school is not in session. I ran this in the summer and in the fall, both on days when school was out for break. When I tried to park there for a run during the month of January, there was no place to park, so I decided to park at the other end of the trail, which I think was Wiltshire Blvd. That parking was in a neighborhood which was ok, but still not the most convenient. The trail has a slight decline when you start at the UD side and there is a graffiti-ridden tunnel about a mile in. The woods are amazing in any season. There are a couple of busy roads to cross, depending on the time of the year, but It is definitely a trail that is scenic and highly recommended for a quick 4 mile run/walk/hike. Love this trail!

Iron Horse Trail (Montgomery County)

southern part

January, 2024 by luv_mlb25

I ran this entire trail back in September. The southern part measured out 3.48 miles. The first part of the southern train is in town, and the map shows a trail running through the woods, but it is not accurate. The first 1.6 miles is sidewalk and then a road run down Hempsead Station Drive. There is a small roundabout and the trail leads in to the woods. It then crosses over Rahn and Whipp and then there is no real place to park and goes in to a dead end. The part starting at the roundabout and ending at the dead end measures 1.88 miles. It is mostly flat and shaded. It's a good trail to just do a down and back and get a decent 5K in without much traffic. the only reason i gave it 4 stars is because I didn't much care for the northern part of the trail and the map is not accurate. Trail does not run through the woods on Hempstead Station Drive. It runs on the road.
