West Ashley Greenway

Nice surprise on vacation.

May, 2024 by charlesdove

Was vacationing in Charleston and rode the Ashley trail. Started at the Albemarle endpoint and headed west. Took my mountain bike because from description I thought about half of the 8.2 miles would be unpaved. Well I keep going and at 7.2 miles the asphalt ended at the Croghan Landing Dr parking lot.
Rode the reminder on the sand/dirt stretch. Scenery much different then what I’m used to in the mountains of Virginia. Very beautiful surroundings on west end. More shaded too after around 4-5 miles because the electrical right of way turns away from the trail, so more trees can grow into each other and cover the trail more often.
There are lots of street crossings and the one major one at Folly Road Blvd. Can get annoying, feels like you never can get in a rhythm slowing up and reaccelerating.
I’d recommend parking behind the shopping strip on Windermere and avoid the Folly crosssing.

Great Connecting Trail

April, 2024 by themfoxes

While this trail may not be very long, it provides a vital service for many cyclists and pedestrians by providing safe passage to the opposite side of the Intracoastal Waterway. The asphalt trail initially runs parallel to US 17 at 62th Ave N, then turns into a lightly wooded trail. After running along side the north end dog park, it travels across the waterway and then ends at the Horry County mountain bike track, The Hulk. Unfortunately, the trail just ends here but if you don’t mind riding on the road, you can take Eddie Dyer Rd to get to the abundant shopping area in River Oaks.

Major Construction - March 2024

We got on the trail at E. Richardson Avenue. To our surprise there is a major road being put in a couple miles into the ride. You can pass through the construction but it is definitely a boot unpleasant.

Doodle Rail Trail

Hilly, not crowded

March, 2024 by woodencanoe1

This was my third ride on the Doodle trail. It is hillier than the Greenville Swamp Rabbit trail, and much less crowded. Good bathrooms at each end, and a nice store at the Pickens end that serves sandwiches and craft beers in cans and bottles.

This Lyman rail trail is a pleasant walk by the remains of an old mill and through an old mill neighborhood. I was happy to see today that the trail had been extended. Thank you!

This was a good run. The trail is mostly flat. It's measured out and it's accurate. I really enjoyed this route and plan to revisit.

Peak to Prosperity Passage (Palmetto Trail)

clean, easy trail

January, 2024 by bransom49

Rucked it up and back yesterday, full trail. Super clean, easy trail. No incline. Minimal views, good for getting in your miles. Rocks were a pain in the a**. Definitely need some trail friendly shoes. Feet got beat up pretty good. Some campsites along small streams. 6/10. Good for getting time on feet. Won’t be back except for straight forward mileage. Bikes would be solid for stacking miles on a simple trail.

Peak to Prosperity Passage (Palmetto Trail)

not meant for running

December, 2023 by amaybach

Just want to let runners know this trail has a very irregular surface with rocks and grassy patches. I don’t recommend it for running.
