River to the Sea Bikeway

Dangerous!!!

May, 2024 by marydegange

A third of the ride is designated bike trail, the other two thirds are streets, and a few are very busy streets! Many street crossings, and signage is fair. Had to check the map several times to make sure we were on the bikeway. Won’t ride this ever again.

Wright Brothers Multi-Use Path

An ideal picturesque walk for those needing a smooth surface and benches. Docks and water on one side and beautiful large houses with manicured lawns on the other.

good running path!!

May, 2024 by anderskelley2

Perfect little path! Parking at the bus stop (1300 N marine blvd) is easiest to get on the trail (lil sketchy for the first mile or so). Theres a park you pass that has restrooms! And trash cans throughout the trail. Def more people biking than walking/running. The mile markers every 0.5 miles are great!!! Can easily get 8 miles going down and back and could probably make it ~10.

City Walk

Really cool ride through downtown Hickory. You can ride from 1 bike shop to another but you have to cross a busy road to do it.

Little Sugar Creek Greenway

May, 2024 by evada

Except for a little roll on the southern most end, the southern 10 miles are flat, wide and smooth with several rest stops and no, repeat *no* street crossings. A very good trail.

Deep River Rail Trail

Trailhead Coordinates

May, 2024 by urk4s79424

Seemed like the trailhead coordinates weren’t accurate. They brought me to someplace close to the trail but with no parking area. All the parking areas are on route 22 (around 35.7412891, -79.6828295). Not exactly a quiet walk. Seemed to be some kind of man made buzz most of the walk. Never could figure out where it was coming from. But the views of the river were great and I saw one of the biggest great blue herons I’ve ever seen.

Salem Lake Trail

Nice trail

May, 2024 by janskinj

Circumvent the Salem Lake in 7 miles. Small section is asphalt and majority is packed dirt/gravel. Several sections of erosions and tree debris along with horse droppings. However, more eroded sections have been repaired. Lots of rolling hills and 2 steeper climbs with hairpin turns. Tough bike riding on weekends due to Lake’s popularity. Great balance of sun and shade with welcome lake breezes. Plenty of parking. Option to mountain bike on Jesus Trail or at the Dojo. If erosion was non existent-this would be a 5 star trail especially week days. One of our area favorites

Gary Shell Cross-City Trail

urban to woods

May, 2024 by janskinj

A good portion of this trail presents as a sidewalk along a busy road. Still decent park views, old trolley lines and water side rides at this end. The real beauty is at the Halyburton Park end. Wooded, all natural, rolling hills, the smell of pine and lots of critters. Peaceful and rewarding.

Green Mill Run Greenway

Great Family trail

April, 2024 by wxn4rxwz9b

Park in lot down towards the back ball fields at Elm Street park to get in. Short dirt path gets you directly on. Plus there’s public restrooms at that lot. Well paved. Clearly marked. Great path culture among walkers and bikers. Only a few stops for streets that are very pedestrian/biker friendly with the flashing blinkers. Traffic openly stopped both times. Shade trees also no the whole way. Great river side breeze from the tar river. There’s a leash free dog park near the end of the park that we found a pavilion to enjoy snacks we packed. Great playground at elm street to use as children’s incentive to play at after biking. Lol. Ours four year old loved it. The path has pleasant hills (for enc) and gentle curves to add variety . Good riding :)

Crabtree Creek Greenway

A bit disappointing

April, 2024 by rmillanct

What was not expected was the trail was closed on two ends, so I can’t put in a totally fair review, but I was not impressed. The trail breaks up a lot, connects via the road, runs through a lot of suburban areas that are somewhat scenic. There are some cool bridges, but can’t really say I saw much more to write about. I am giving this 3 stars based on the fact I could not see the entire trail.

Atlantic & Yadkin Greenway

April, 2024 by brian.laney8

The bridge crossing Lake Brandt 1/4 mile south of Strawberry Rd is blocked off. The detour is Battleground Rd to Bur-Mil park.
